Wheels should be fairly simple to comprehend. A rim, some spokes, some wheel nuts, a hub. But there is a seemingly infinite variety of wheel designs. Here's the question: what makes a beautiful wheel? And here are my entirely personal answers:

Odd number of spokes (or odd number of pairs of spokes)

Minimum 5 spokes. Porsche Fuchs (5 spokes) = awesome. Ferrari 308 OEM (5 spokes) = Awesome. Pontiac Sunfire 3-spokes = ecch.

Wire? If it was made by anyone other than a British company and it was made after 1969, no. If it was an MG or a Triumph, you get a couple of years bonus time.

Five bolts preferable to four, for the same reason as spokes.

Anything powder coated to be anything other than black is disqualified.

Anything that spins ON the wheel or otherwise moves (other than rotating) is disqualified.

Turbine wheels? Yes. And in the case of turbines, the more blades the better.

Wheels that look like Klingon weapons are disqualified.

I have no strong feelings on the depth of the dish.

Perceptual cleverness such as the Porsche phone-dial wheels or VW GTI wheels (focus on the holes? Or focus on the spokes?) is to be encouraged.

Satin finish > chrome finish.

Feel free to post your favorite examples or dispute my principles. Of course, I'm right.
